Great Western generously donated their very large well data collection which includes the following:

A large, private, Midland based operator donated its very large collection of unreleased logs covering the entire Permian Basin to the library.
August 16, 2022 - Bettis Brothers LLC Mud Log & Scout Card Donation
The Bettis brothers donated their very large mud log collection of 4,560 logs covering West Texas and Southeast New Mexico to the library. They also donated their Sinclair scout card collection (1920-1970).

Ted Collins & Associates donated their very large log and mud log collection to Subsurface including many unreleased logs covering the Permian Basin as well as Lavaca & Gonzales counties.

April 26, 2017 - Geological Research Center - Abilene
Subsurface Library members now have access to the Geological Research Center (GRC) in Abilene. GRC has a unique collection of logs and other data in districts 7B, 7C, 8, 8A, 9 and S.E. New Mexico.
February 25, 2016 - IHS Training Session
Subsurface will hold two free training sessions for its members on how to use the IHS Enerdeq system on February 25, 2016. There will be two identical sessions, one from 9:00 - 11:00 am and one from 12:00 – 2:00 pm. Beginners to advanced users are welcome. The library also has purchased two new computers and a new color laser printer for clients to use while accessing the Enerdeq system.

August 6, 2013 - Geological Data Library - Houston
Subsurface Library members now have access to the Geological Data Library (GDL) in Houston. GDL has a unique collection of logs and other data and is the official repository for Rice University, University of Houston and Texas A&M University.

December 6, 2012 - Color Laser Log Printer
The library has acquired a new NeuraLaser color log printer. It is a high-speed, high- resolution, continuous, color laser log printer and is available for member use.
December 3, 2012 - Midland Oil Scouts Association
The library recently acquired the entire Midland Oil Scouts Association scout ticket collection. There are 500,000 tickets just for the Permian Basin that cover a period of time beginning in the late 1950's and run into early 2011.
In the late 1950's, Williams & Lee (and subsequently IHS) inaugurated a commercial scouting service using printed tickets to replace the hand written tickets that had existed since the Scout Check was formed in the 1930's--when all scouting information was exchanged verbally between scouts at the Scout Hall in Midland every Wednesday morning.
November 6, 2012 - Wyoming Logs
Subsurface just acquired a microfiche log collection that covers the entire state of Wyoming. The logs, some 26,000, were released between 1950 and 2007. The library has a microfiche viewer-printer-scanner so that one can view, print or make a digital image (PDF or TIF) of a log.

Subsurface members can now search the library's well log index, as well as our Amerada scout tickets and Kroenlein scout cards, on our website. Please contact us for a user name and password.
May 1, 2012 - Subsurface Announces its 50th Anniversary
The Subsurface Library will be celebrating its 50th year in business on Friday, June 15, 2012. Please join us for a catered Mexican lunch buffet in the library on the 15th from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. The Midland Chamber of Commerce and its M-Squad Ambassadors will also attend.
March 1, 2012 - Coastal Bend Geological Library - Corpus Christi
Subsurface Library members now have access to the Coastal Bend Geological Library in Corpus Christi. They offer original and irreplaceable material from three separate libraries which were merged into one, covering South Texas.
January 1, 2012 - IHS Drilling Wire
Subsurface Library members now have access to IHS Drilling Wire reports which provide online well activity reports that track Permian Basin wells from well permitting through well completion and final status.
November 1, 2011 - New Mexico Energy Library - Roswell
Subsurface Library members now have access to the New Mexico Energy Library in Roswell, N.M. NMEL has all of the OCD's large scale logs and well files for the entire state of New Mexico.
August 1, 2011 - New Texas Well Data
The Subsurface Library has acquired access to pre-1985 logs, scout tickets and well records from various state agencies in Austin that go back to the 1930's. This new well data is available for the Permian Basin and also for the entire state of Texas and State Waters.
August 1, 2009 - Microfiche Log Collection
The Subsurface Library has acquired a microfiche well log collection that covers the entire state of Texas. The logs were released between 1985 and 1998. The Library also acquired a microfiche viewer-printer-scanner to print or make digital images of the logs. We also offer a microfiche scanning service.
May 1, 2009 - Permian Basin Sample Lab Descriptions
The Subsurface Library has acquired 20 file cabinets of the PBSL's sample log descriptions. These logs were transcribed by geologists for the PBSL. Coverage commences around 1944 and runs through 1993.
December 1, 2008 - Permian Basin Sample Lab Logs
The Subsurface Library has acquired the entire original inventory of the PBSL which provided Stratigraphic logs for the Permian Basin since 1944. The coverage includes some 16,000 logs in Texas, almost 6,000 in New Mexico (covering the entire state) and a few in Arizona, Utah and Arkansas.
September 1, 2008 - Amerada Scout Ticket Collection
The Subsurface Library's Amerada Scout Ticket Collection is now available in the library, where the tickets are searchable by location, just like our log index. The tickets may be viewed and printed and are of excellent historical value. This original set of tickets starts from the beginning of exploration in the Permian Basin and runs until 1972.
